Wesdome Gold Mines has had over 30 years of continuous gold mining operations in Canada.  The Company is 100% Canadian focused with a pipeline of projects in various stages of development.  The Company’s strategy is to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer, producing 200,000+ ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec.  The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold at the Eagle River Underground Mine.  Wesdome started production at the Kiena Complex in Val d’Or, Quebec in December 2022. The Company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO”.


SUMMARY

The over-time eligible position reports to and works under the direction and management of the Site Lead for Environment and will coordinate closely with other teams on and off-site including staff and leadership at the Eagle River mine. In accordance with Company protocols and policies, the Lead, Environment Projects and Permitting will manage existing and future environmental projects including compliance and permitting, as well as innovations and strategies for continuous improvement on environmental stewardship and performance. The role will include strategizing, compliance and technical reporting writing, visible felt leadership, environmental monitoring and project management. This role will also be occasionally responsible for community outreach and public presentations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountabilities and duties will include but not limited to the following:

  • Innovative strategies to achieve success of mining operations in the context of sustainable environmental stewardship.
  • Support and project manage baseline activities and research activities to obtain and maintain operating permits.
  • Work closely with Sustainability on community and Indigenous consultation and engagement activities relating to environmental stewardship, permit consultation and Traditional Knowledge, to ensure the successful planning and implementation of the Company’s sustainability projects.
  • Work closely with other site departments and corporate support staff to help ensure that all regulatory permits are identified; relevant plans/documents are produced, collated and submitted, Government feedback relayed and approvals sought in a timely manner.
  • Provide assistance regarding environmental risk, compliance and best practices in Ontario.
  • Support collaboration with site operational functions to ensure an integrated and consistent Company approach to managing environmental compliance, stewardship, risk and reporting.
  • Coordinate and participate in environmental site visits and inspections involving government, Indigenous groups and community members.
  • Provide input and support on annual budgets for all environmental activities at the Eagle River Mine.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Project Management
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to achieve deadlines, act decisively, be resilient and resourceful.
  • Self-motivated, team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • University degree or college diploma in environmental sciences or equivalent.
  • Professional designation or eligibility for the Province of Ontario in an environmentally related field such as biology, engineering or natural resource management.

Location and Logistics of the Role

  • Progressive mine-related experience in the environmental and permitting field
  • This position is located at our Eagle River Mine location near Wawa, ON;
  • In this role, you will work a 14 days in / 14 days out schedule and therefore you will have meals and accommodations provided at our camp;
  • Field activities as related to the position.
  • Time-bound projects such as annual reporting deadlines.
