'Delicious and malicious': Come for supper, stay for murder mystery

Drawing inspiration from interactive theatre performances and inspired by the board game Clue, the Superior Heights OnStage performers are inviting the public to buy tickets for a dinner and murder mystery show.

The dinner and theatre production - a fundraiser with all proceeds to go toward supporting Superior Heights theatre and culinary arts department programming - begins at 6 p.m. Thursday May 9 and will run for approximately two hours in the Superior Heights cafeteria. The meal will be prepared by Jason Zachary and the Culinary Arts class at Superior Heights.

Tickets are $30 for adults and seniors, $20 for students and can be purchased at the Superior Heights main office or through the Algoma District School Board online.

The event will be followed by Clue: OnStage May 22 to 25.

Join Superior Heights OnStage for a delicious and malicious night of culinary arts and crime as they present an interactive dinner theatre murder mystery event.  

Influenced by famous interactive theatre performances like Tony n' Tina’s Wedding and inspired by the board game Clue – which will be the basis for the spring production for the high school theatre company – this upcoming fundraiser is sure to delight all guests with its high caliber of dining and hilarious performances by the cast.  

The fundraiser takes place Thursday May 9th at 6 p.m. and will run about two hours. The meal will be offered as a plated dinner and served throughout the performances.  

The plot for the evening will concern a royal wedding. The King’s eldest daughter is marrying a Canadian farmer, and it’s a clash of cultures as the two families join forces to celebrate this momentous occasion. Murder is in the air as old rivalries and new conflicts take centre stage. Figuring out “whodunit” and why is all part of the fun that the audience will be invited to join. With twists, turns and surprise plot shifts in store, this is a satisfying and satiating event that you won’t want to miss! 

As attendees, all guests are invited to dress up for the occasion and blend in with either the groom’s side or the bride’s: formal wear or country-western chic is encouraged.

The cost is $30 for adults and $20 for students and includes a three-course meal and admittance to the fundraiser. All proceeds will go towards supporting the students in the theatre and culinary arts departments at Superior Heights.

This is a plated event and represents the highest level of work done by the most advanced senior students in the program. The starter will be homemade bread served with black olive tapenade and butter, alongside a cucumber-wrapped mixed green salad with apple cranberry vinaigrette. For the main, there will be a creamy lemon-stuffed chicken piccata. A flourless chocolate fudge cake with brown sugar dust and mocha whipped cream, served with coffee, will be the dessert.  

Later, from May 22 to 25, the high school company will stage Clue: OnStage based on the cult classic Tim Curry film that was inspired by the Hasbro board game also called Clue. Directed by Anthony Aceti, this production will be a one-act hour-and-a-half high-energy comedy and feature the same humour and quality as other recent Superior Heights OnStage productions such as Spamalot and The SpongeBob Musical. Tickets for Clue, a play (non-musical), are currently on sale online.
