With the deadline for local election nominations as close as fleas in a blanket, five new candidates filed nomination papers Thursday.
City clerk Rachel Tyczinski tells SooToday anyone else thinking of running must be lined up in the queue in the main lobby of the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre by 2 p.m. Friday with all their paperwork in order.
Whatever you do, don't do what this Ward 5 wannabe did during the last election in 2018!
Until today, it looked like Ward 2 Couns. Lisa Vezeau-Allen and Luke Dufour might be acclaimed.
But that's not going to happen.
They'll be running against freshly nominated candidates Dennis Murphy and Nick Armstrong.
Former federal Conservative candidate Sonny Spina filed paperwork Thursday to run for Ward 1 councillor.
There are also two new candidates for Algoma District School Board: Amanda Carpenter and Michelle Murphy, both running in Ward 5.
The 2022 local elections are on Oct. 24.
