Stephanie Hopkin, who once wrote speeches, press releases and official greetings as community engagement co-ordinator to Mayor Debbie Amaroso, is seeking election in the Oct. 24 municipal elections.
Hopkin filed nomination papers Wednesday to run for one of two positions on the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB).
DSSMSSAB was for many years a low-profile agency, but in recent months has found itself at the vortex of some of the Sault's most pressing issues including the opioid crisis and homelessness and housing.
Hopkin worked for then-mayor Amaroso from 2011 to 2014.
More recently, she's been a senior co-ordinator at the regional tourism organization Destination Northern Ontario.
The deadline to file paperwork to run is Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
