The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce will be holding a provincial election virtual candidates forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 26.
This comes after the Chamber cancelled an in-person candidates luncheon forum scheduled for Wednesday, May 18 at The Delta.
“The decision to cancel our candidates luncheon forum was simply an event management decision. The extremely short election timeline does not allow for the longer promotion or registration period that we usually enjoy with most events and if we don’t meet the minimum ticket sale threshold to cover all costs associated with hosting an event, we have to make that call to cancel sometimes,” said Don Ferguson, Chamber spokesperson in an email.
Those that paid by credit card for the May 18 event have been issued refunds, Ferguson said.
The May 26 virtual event had already been planned and is not a rescheduling of the May 18 event, Ferguson said.
“We are focusing now on our virtual candidates forum later this month and we hope people will tune in for that discussion as we talk to candidates about issues affecting business and the economy,” Ferguson said.
The Chamber is inviting members to submit questions for candidates for the May 26 virtual event at this link.
A link to register for the event will be emailed to Chamber members soon, Ferguson said.
The election will be held June 2.
