Our Village keeps on growing.
Village Media, the local news company that operates this website, has added another Ontario news outlet to its roster: PelhamToday.ca.
Launched this morning, PelhamToday is Village Media’s 20th owned-and-operated local news website in Ontario — and the third Village site in Niagara Region, joining ThoroldToday and Niagara-on-the-Lake Local.
“We are thrilled to be in Pelham, a place where people care deeply about their community and the news and events happening around them,” says Jeff Elgie, the CEO of Village Media. “We have an amazing team in place and we’re looking forward to showing local residents why they should turn to us first for breaking news and deeper coverage in Central Niagara.”
For longtime readers of The Voice — the weekly newspaper that served Pelham for 25 years before printing its final edition last month — this new website will feel very familiar: the team of reporters, editors and columnists who produced the paper will be delivering the same quality local journalism at PelhamToday.
Along with Editor Dave Burket, the roster of writers includes Don Rickers, John Chick, Helen Tran, and Brian Green, as well as columnists John Swart, Rev. Michael Coren, Larry Cote, and Rob Weatherby.
“When done with purpose and passion, local journalism has the power to connect communities like nothing else can,” says Michael Friscolanti, Editor-in-Chief at Village Media. “We introduce you to fascinating neighbours and celebrate local triumphs, but we also ask the tough questions and hold decision-makers to account. When local news thrives, everyone benefits.”
Born digital, Village Media boasts a growing network of more than 60 owned-and-operated and partner websites in Canada and the United States — each one committed to strengthening the community it serves. Free to everyone, our websites are designed to be super-fast and easy to navigate, whether you’re on a phone, computer or tablet.
Most importantly, every Village Media news site is a trusted source of reliable, hyperlocal journalism and other important information, including weather reports, obituaries and classifieds.
PelhamToday Editor Dave Burket says he's eager to explore the expanded resources that Village Media offers.
"The talent on this team is incredible," says Burket. "We now have the ability to bring readers almost hourly updates of important stories, both local and farther afield. And readers can be assured that our investigative appetite is still very much present."
