19-year-old from Bruce Mines charged in sexual assault investigation

A 19-year-old Bruce Mines resident has been charged in relation to a sexual assault incident that is alleged to have occurred on March 3, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Johnathan Dubois is accused of touching two minors “for a sexual purpose” and threatening them with violence if they tried to leave, the release says.

He faces a number of charges, including sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Full text of the news release follows:

On March 25, 2022, officers with Investigation Services and Patrol Services charged 19-year-old Johnathan Dubois of Bruce Mines, Ont. with sexual interference and sexual assault.

On March 3, 2022, [it is alleged that] the accused and two minors were in a vehicle when he touched them for a sexual purpose and threatened them with violence if they attempted to leave the vehicle. The two victims were able to exit the vehicle and police were called.

As a result of the ensuing investigation a warrant was requested and issued for the accused’s arrest.

Officers located him on March 25, 2022 and he was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

He is charged with:
    •    Sexual assault x2
    •    Sexual interference x2
    •    Sexual assault with a weapon x2
    •    Forcible confinement x2
    •    Failure to comply with a release order x4

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
