On Friday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 40-year-old man with assault after someone spit in the face of another driver.
At around 6 p.m., a 911 caller reported an assault that had occurred at the intersection of Second Line West and Korah Road.
Police said an investigation revealed the accused had become aggressive while driving behind a victim in traffic.
“At a red light, the accused had thrown an object at the victim’s vehicle before exiting their own vehicle, opening the door of the victim’s vehicle, and spitting in the victim’s face,” police said in a news release.
The victim and the accused do not know each other. The victim did not sustain physical injuries, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the accused’s residence where he was located and arrested.
Benjamin Rivard is charged with assault.
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 3, 2025.
None of the charges have been proven in court and Rivard is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
