Argument results in assault charge

Police say the altercation took place on Saturday afternoon in the Second Line West area

Police have charged Jerry Archibald with assault following an altercation that occurred Saturday afternoon in the area of Second Line West.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that a verbal argument resulted in the 63-year-old accused striking the victim in the face and knocking him to the ground.

Full text of the release follows:

On Nov. 6, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 63-year-old Jerry Archibald with assault.

Around 12:30 p.m. the accused was driving in the area of Second Line West when another vehicle drove past and the driver made a gesture to him. The accused followed that vehicle and stopped at a business in the 2600 block of Second Line West.

He exited his vehicle and a verbal altercation between the two drivers, both known to each other, ensued. At this time, it is alleged the accused struck the victim in the face, knocking them to the ground before leaving the area. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require further medical treatment.

The accused attended the Police Services Building on Nov. 6, 2021 and was arrested. He is charged with assault. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22, 2022.
