Arrest made after mall staff threatened with knife: police

Police arrested Mary Morine after it is alleged that she threatened Station Mall staff with a knife during an altercation last Thursday morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 39-year-old faces assault and weapons charges as a result of this investigation.

Full text of the release follows:

On Feb. 24, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Mary Morine with assault with a weapon.

Around 11 a.m., the accused was at the Station Mall and was asked to leave. [It is alleged that] at this time, she threatened staff with a knife and left the area. Officers responded and located her in the 100 block of Bay Street. She was arrested and a subsequent search found her to be in possession of a knife.

She is charged with:
    •    assault with a weapon
    •    uttering threats
    •    weapons dangerous
    •    breach of probation

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on May 2, 2022.
