Police have arrested Jeffrey Rivard following an attempted break-in on John Street early Tuesday morning, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Police say the 32-year-old was apprehended near the scene in possession of break-in tools and provided officers with a false name.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Feb. 15, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 32-year-old Jeffrey Rivard with break and enter.

Around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a possible break and enter at a business in the 600 block of John Street. Upon arrival, officers located a person matching the description provided nearby. Upon speaking with the accused, the accused provided a name later determined to be false, and officers developed grounds to believe this person did attempt a break and enter and they were arrested.

Officers were able to identify the person as the accused and a subsequent search found him to be in possession of break-in tools.

He is charged with:
    •    Break and enter
    •    Possession of break in tools
    •    Obstruct peace officer

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 25, 2022.
