An arrest was made in relation to a firearm investigation that occurred on Pentagon Boulevard on Saturday morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that the accused, 27-year-old Brandon Wyatt, pointed and fired a sawed off rifle at the victim.

The victim was not injured.

Wyatt faces multiple weapons related charges as a result of this investigation.

Full text of the release follows:

On June 11, 2022, officers with Investigation Services charged 27-year-old Brandon Wyatt with various firearm offences.

Around 9:30 a.m. on June 11, 2022, the accused and the victim were inside the garage at a residence in the 0-100 block of Pentagon Boulevard. [It is alleged that] the accused pointed a sawed off .22 calibre rifle at the victim and fired the gun, missing the victim.

Officers responded and secured the area. Officers cleared the residence and the garage, placing 15 people under investigative detention. Through the investigation, officers identified the accused as having fired the gun and he was placed under arrest. The other 14 people were released unconditionally. During a subsequent search, officers located a .22 calibre rifle.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Careless use of a firearm
    •    Pointing a firearm
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
    •    Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
    •    Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x4
    •    Discharging a firearm with intent
    •    Assault with a weapon
    •    Breach of probation – failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody with a court date scheduled for June 13, 2022.
