One person faces assault and theft charges following an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 30.
Police say that at approximately 1:40 a.m., the accused and the victim were in a vehicle when a verbal argument began.
It is alleged that 29-year-old Nicholas Hnakiuk kicked the victim out of the vehicle, assaulted them and stole their cell phone.
The victim reported the incident to the Sault Ste. Marie Police service on Nov. 11. Hnakiuk was located and arrested the same day, and charged with:
• Assault
• Theft under $5,000
Hnakiuk is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.
