Assault suspect tasered, faces multiple charges

28-year-old arrested after police respond to disturbance on Second Line West

A man faces multiple charges after police responded to reports of an assault on Second Line West.

On Nov. 2 at around 10:30 p.m., officers with Sault Ste. Marie Police Patrol Services responded to reports of an assault at a multi-unit residence in the 500 block of Second Line West. 

Upon arrival, officers began speaking with some of the people involved when the situation escalated.

A verbal argument ensued, police said in a news release.

Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and separate the people involved. 

While speaking with some of the people involved, one complainant told officers the accused had entered their residence and assaulted them with a wooden club.

While speaking with the victim, officers observed the accused in the window of their residence with what appeared to be a gun.

Officers called the accused out of the residence. 

The accused exited the residence but was not complying with officer demands. 

While attempting to get the accused to comply, the accused threw a knife toward officers, police said.

Officers deployed conducted energy weapons, or tasers, and the accused was arrested.

Following the arrest, officers seized a knife and an imitation firearm.

While transporting the accused back to the Police Services Building, officers were threatened.

Cody Rousseau, 28, is charged with:

  • Uttering Threats x2
  • Break and Enter
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Assault with a Weapon x3
  • Mischief Under $5,000 x2
  • Using an Imitation Firearm while Committing an Offence
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
