A 27-year-old has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from local businesses eight different times.

Over a two-week period in January, Sault Police say they received eight reports of a person stealing items from three places: one in the 200 block of Second Line West, one in the 200 block of Bay Street, and one in the 600 block of Great Northern Road.

The stolen items were worth a combined $1,282.85, police say.

While patrolling Albert Street East yesterday, Sault Police say they spotted the suspect and placed him under arrest.

“During a subsequent search, the accused was found to have someone else's bank cards and identification,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The bank cards and identification were returned to their rightful owners.”

Aaron Kerr is charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000 x8
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of Credit Card
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking
  • Failure to Comply with Appearance Notice

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Kerr is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
