Sault Police say they found a break-in suspect sleeping on a couch inside a vacant downtown house.

On Monday morning, someone phoned 911 to report a break and enter in progress at a vacant residence in the 0-100 block of Albert Street East.

“Officers were dispatched to the residence where they located several broken windows and the accused sleeping inside on a couch,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “They were arrested.”

Daniel Black, 57, is charged with:

  • Break and Enter
  • Mischief Under $5,000

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Aug. 12.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Black is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
