BREAKING: Boundary Road crime scene was murder-suicide

'This appears to have been an act of intimate partner violence': Sault Police say man strangled his wife inside their home on May 1 before strangling himself outside

A major crime scene investigation at a Boundary Road home last month was a murder-suicide, Sault Police announced this morning.

As SooToday reported at the time, emergency vehicles were called to the home at approximately 12:30 p.m. on May 1.

Officers discovered two deceased people, a husband and wife. The woman was inside the home and the man was outside the residence in a vehicle.

“An investigation determined that this incident was a murder-suicide wherein the female was fatally strangled by her husband, who then died by self-strangulation,” says a brief news release issued this morning by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “This appears to have been an act of intimate partner violence. It is an isolated incident.”

Police say they are not identifying the killer or the victim.

Land registry records retrieved by SooToday show the home was owned by the same couple since 1956.

SooToday will update this breaking story throughout the day.
