A 38-year-old is facing multiple charges after someone cut through the fence of a Sault Ste. Marie business and stole an item.
City police say the break-and-enter occurred in the 600 block of Great Northern Road on June 4.
“An investigation revealed the accused had cut a hole through a fence, stolen an item, and damaged property in an attempt to enter another area of the business,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
A suspect was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
One week later, on June 11, officers attending an unrelated call located the suspect and placed him under arrest.
Matthew Cain is charged with:
- Break and Enter
- Theft Under $5,000
- Mischief Under $5,000
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Aug. 12.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Cain is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
