Canine Unit tracks down break-in suspects

Two suspects arrested following Dacey Road break and enter incident early Sunday morning

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the Canine Unit was used to track two suspects following a break-in on Dacey Road early Sunday morning.

It is believed that one of the suspects had entered the St. Marys River and was transported to hospital for treatment.

Both 39-year-old Curtis Ingram and 26-year-old Tristan Vipond were arrested as a result and held for bail court.

On Dec. 12, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Curtis Ingram and 26-year-old Tristan Vipond with break and enter.

Around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a break and enter in progress in the 0-100 block of Dacey Road. Upon arrival, officers observed a man flee the area towards the St. Marys River.

The Canine Unit was called out to assist in tracking the man. An initial canine track led officers to a truck parked in the area. Mr. Ingram was in the driver’s seat and officers observed a duffle bag which had been reported as used to take items from a garage in the 0-100 block of Dacey Road. Mr. Ingram was arrested.

Further tracking by the Canine Unit led officers to locate Mr. Vipond in the area and he was arrested. It is believed he went into the St. Marys River, EMS attended, and he was transported to hospital for treatment.

Mr. Ingram is charged with:
    •    break and enter
    •    theft under $5,000
    •    possession of property obtained by crime x2
    •    possession of break in tools

He was held for bail court.

Mr. Vipond is charged with:
    •    break and enter
    •    theft under $5,000
    •    possession of property obtained by crime x2
    •    fail to comply with undertaking – being outside residence

He was held for bail court.
