Collision leads to impaired driving charge

A driver faces impaired driving related charges after officers responded to a collision at the intersection of Bay and Brock Streets on Friday evening.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says that it is believed that one of the involved drivers was impaired by alcohol and the accused refused to comply with a demand for breathe samples.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Oct. 14, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 61-year-old Carol Wishman with operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug.

Around 11 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bay Street and Brock Street. The accused, the driver of one of the vehicles, was receiving medical attention for minor injuries when officers arrived on scene.

Upon speaking with the accused, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were arrested. Officers made demands for the accused to provide breathe samples into an approved device, but the accused refused.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
    •    Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14, 2022.
