Sault police have charged 29-year-old Gunner Shaganash with multiple weapons offences — including carrying two knives — after responding to a report of a person damaging property on McKenzie Avenue.

Police say officers were dispatched to the area on Victoria Day Monday around 7 p.m. and spoke to a suspect.

"Through the investigation officers determined the accused had damaged two vehicles," says a press release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Police allege that the person ignored directions and resisted arrest.

"Officers were able to gain control of the accused, and the accused was arrested," the release continues. "A subsequent search of the accused found them to be in possession of two knives."

Shaganash is charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a danger purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Mischief Under $5,000 x2

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
