A 61-year-old is facing impaired driving charges after Sault police found a man sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle early Thursday morning at the intersection of Trunk Road and South Market Street.

"Officers were dispatched and when they arrived, they saw the vehicle parked at the intersection," says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. "Officers approached the running vehicle and were able to wake the driver."

Police say officers administered a roadside breath test, which registered a reading over the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration. Two further breath samples showed two more readings over the legal limit, police say.

Michael Luzzi is charged with two counts of operation while impaired. Released from custody, he is scheduled to return to court on July 10.

None of the allegations have been proven in court, and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
