A 14-year-old is facing multiple charges after Sault Police say a teenager armed with scissors threatened to harm people at a local elementary school.

At around 3 p.m. yesterday, police say someone phoned 911 to report “a youth walking through the halls of an elementary school with scissors, approaching people in a threatening way and verbally threatening to harm them if they called police.”

Officers were dispatched to the unidentified school and searched the building, but the suspect had already left.

“No one at the school sustained physical injuries,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “Officers located the accused at their residence, and they were arrested.”

The release does not reveal the gender of the accused or whether they were a student at the school.

The 14-year-old is charged with:

  • Assault With Weapon
  • Uttering Threats
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The youth's name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
