A suspected thief is accused of biting and kicking security officers at a downtown business.

At around 1 p.m. yesterday, someone phoned 911 to report a person being detained at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street.

“An investigation revealed the accused was seen stealing items from the business and was confronted by security officers,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “As security officers attempted to gain physical control of the accused, the accused bit and kicked them.”

Justin Tessier, 35, is charged with robbery and assaulting a peace officer.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Tessier is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
