Driver accused of drug impairment, possession of crystal meth

Sault Police have charged James Joseph Hache with impaired driving, identity fraud and other offences following a traffic stop on North Street on March 6.

In a news release issued today, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that the accused's ability to to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs at the time of the traffic stop.

He was also found in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine and provided a false name to officers, police say.

On March 17, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 38-year-old James Joseph Hache with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

On March 6, 2021, officers with Patrol Services conducted a traffic stop on North Street. Upon speaking with the accused, officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. He was arrested and a subsequent search of the area of arrest found the accused to be in possession of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. He was subsequently released with a scheduled court date.

Further investigation revealed the accused had provided a false name to officers and he is a suspended driver. Police located the accused on March 17, 2021 in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue and he was arrested.

He is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, identity fraud, possession of a controlled substance, refusal to comply with a demand, and driving while under suspension. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 19, 2021.
