The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police combined to arrest and charge a 29-year-old on Tuesday.

Around 1:15 p.m., officers with the Sault Police patrolling in the 500 block of Great Northern Road saw a person get into a vehicle with what police say were stolen licence plates.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, police say it left the scene at a high rate of speed, driving into oncoming traffic while also running a red light.

Police did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of the safety of the public.

Officers with the OPP later found the suspect in Garden River.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged.

As a result of the incident, 29-year-old Michael Hogan-Denis is charged with:

  • dangerous operation
  • flight from peace officer
  • possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000
  • driving while under suspension x2 (under the Highway Traffic Act)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
