A 38-year-old is facing multiple charges after a vehicle nearly ran over a pedestrian before smashing into a guardrail Friday night.
At around 6:30 p.m., officers patrolling the McNabb Street area came across a motor vehicle collision on Algoma Avenue.
“The vehicle had struck a guardrail, narrowly missing a bystander on the sidewalk,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “Officers located the driver walking around outside their vehicle and, upon speaking with them, developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.”
The accused provided multiple breath samples and all of them registered above the legal limit, police allege.
Cory Sewell is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
- Dangerous Operation
Sewell was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on Feb. 26, 2024.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Sewell is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
