Driver charged after vehicle hits light pole

Police say the accused fled the crash scene on foot

Police have charged Arthur Dawe following a collision that occurred Saturday evening at the intersection of Trunk Road and Boundary Road.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 34-year-old accused stands charged with dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident after a vehicle he was driving struck a light pole in the area.

Full text of the release follows:

On Aug. 14, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 34-year-old Arthur Dawe with dangerous operation.

Around 6:30 p.m., a car was travelling northbound on Trunk Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed several lanes of traffic and collided with a light pole at the intersection of Boundary Road. Following the collision, the driver fled the area on foot.

Officers responded and began an investigation. Through the investigation officers developed grounds to believe the accused was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision. Officers located the accused around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Carlbert Street. He was arrested.

He is charged with dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident. He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4, 2021.
