A Sault driver stopped for crossing the yellow line into oncoming traffic is now facing drug charges.

Police say on Saturday at 8:39 p.m., officers observed a southbound vehicle cross the centre yellow line into oncoming traffic.

When they pulled the driver over, police say they noticed a smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Officers developed grounds to believe the accused had consumed cannabis, and a Standardized Field Sobriety Test was administered. Police say the accused performed poorly.

Police say approximately 259 grams of cannabis was found in the vehicle.

As a result, Michael Carricato, 44, has been charged with impaired driving and possession of over 30 grams of cannabis in a public place.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19, 2020.
