A man is facing impaired driving charges after a crash Sunday night.

Sault Ste. Marie Police say someone called 911 at around 6:30 p.m. to report a vehicle in a ditch on Black Road.

The caller said the driver appeared to be impaired.

“Upon arrival, officers observed the driver exit the vehicle and developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol,” police said in a news release.

Police say multiple breath samples from the driver registered above the legal limit.

Michael Caruso, 46, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug

He’s scheduled to appear in court next month.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Caruso is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
