Driver charged with impaired after vehicle gets stuck on train tracks

Accused also failed three breath tests, police say

Police have charged Gabriele Vitali with impaired driving following a complaint regarding an erratic driver early this morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 20-year-old accused was observed by officers exiting the driver’s side of a vehicle that had become stuck on the train tracks near Queen Street West and West Street.

On Nov. 17, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 20-year-old Gabriele Vitali with impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+).

Around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a call of an erratic driver in the area of Queen Street West and West Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a man exit the driver’s side of a vehicle which was now stuck on the train tracks located near Queen Street West and West Street.

Upon speaking with the man, officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. He identified himself as the accused and provided a breathe sample into an approved device roadside, registering a fail result.

He was arrested and later provided two breathe samples into an approved device, registering two fail results.

He is charged with impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+). He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17, 2022.
