Sault Police have charged a 22-year-old with drug possession and impaired driving offences.

In a press release issued this morning, police say they responded to a call around 3 a.m. this morning of a man drinking alcohol in a vehicle in the 300 block of John Street.

Police say upon arrival officers located the vehicle and observed an open beer bottle in the front cup holder but there was no one in the vehicle.

Officers left the area and while on patrol they observed the same vehicle driving in a John Street parking lot.

Officers conducted a traffic stop, and observed a white powder on the middle console. The substance is believed to be a controlled substance.

While speaking with the accused officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. Officers say he provided two breathe samples into an approved device, registering two fail results.

As a result, Tiago Archambault-Augusto has been arrested and charged with with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+) and possession of a controlled substance.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 18, 2021.
