When city police officers were dispatched to a Carmen"s Way intersection for a personal welfare check on July 10, they found an unconscious motorist.

Tyrel Raddatz was passed out behind the wheel of a black Chevy, a judge heard Wednesday.

It was 12:15 a.m. and the vehicle was stopped at a red light at the corner of Carmen's Way and Second Line East.

The light turned green but the Chevy didn't move, prosecutor Stuart Woods said.

When officers approached the vehicle, they discovered the driver slumped over the steering wheel with his foot on the brake.

There was a strong odour of alcohol and a Twisted Tea beverage can in a cup holder, the Crown told Ontario Court Justice Andrew Buttazzoni.

They tried to wake him up but received "minimal response."

One officer reached into the vehicle and turned it off, the assistant Crown attorney said.

The cops had "to assist him" to exit the vehicle.

Raddatz provided two breath samples, both of which recorded readings of 180 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to over 80, telling Buttazzoni he agreed with the facts.

Woods called for the mandatory minimum $2,000 fine and a 12-month driving prohibition.

Buttazzoni gave Raddatz six months to pay the fine and a $600 victim surcharge.
