An employee at a Great Northern Road business managed to corral a suspected thief until police arrived to make an arrest.

Officers were dispatched to the address at around 2 p.m. on Feb. 1 after receiving a report of a theft and assault.

“It was reported the accused had attempted to leave the business without paying for some items and assaulted an employee when confronted about it,” says a news release issued this morning by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The employee held the accused in custody until officers arrived and arrested them.”

Brooks Warmington, 32, is charged with:

  • Assault
  • Theft – Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and later released on an undertaking.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Warmington is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
