Police say a robbery suspect threatened to harm an employee after being confronted over allegedly leaving a business with nearly $300 worth of items without paying for them.

The incident took place in the city's east end on Aug. 26, Sault Ste. Marie Police said.

Around 6:30 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a robbery at a business in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard, according to police.

"Investigation revealed the accused had attempted to leave the business with $298.05 worth of items they had not paid for," police said. "When confronted by an employee, the accused had threatened to harm them and left."

The suspect fled the scene before police had arrived but was located in the 0-100 block of Breton Road shortly thereafter and arrested.

Christine Wynne, 41, is charged with robbery.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 6.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
