Erratically driven vehicle was stolen, had a big gun in it, say police

Police say a 30-30 rifle and ammunition was found in a stolen vehicle

When police got a call that a vehicle had come into town in an erratic manner and that it was parked somewhere along the south end of Great Northern Road, they went to check it out, says a news release.

What officers found there was a stolen vehicle with a 30-30 calibre rifle and ammunition inside. And the suspected driver. 

Police say the driver was wanted on a committal warrant for suspended driving and was arrested and taken to the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.

Amey Roach, 50, is awaiting a bail hearing. 

Roach is charged with the following:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm, knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Two counts of careless storage of a firearm or ammunition
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Theft over $5,000
