UPDATE: Electric heater caused fire at MacDonald Avenue church

Firefighters responded to the scene at 10 a.m. Tuesday; nobody was injured

Today's fire at Our Lady of Good Counsel church was caused by the "failure of an electrical heating appliance," Sault Fire Services confirmed this afternoon.

The fire department says crews were dispatched to the building on MacDonald Avenue at 10 a.m. and "were able to contain and extinguish the fire."

"The fire is not considered suspicious," says a news release issued this afternoon from Sault Fire Services. "Further investigation revealed the cause of the fire resulted from a failure of an electrical heating appliance. There is moderate damage to the building. There are no injuries to report."
