Five arrests made during two-week patrol in downtown core: Sault Police

Officers also performed 35 vehicle checks

Sault Police have shared the results of a two week 'proactive patrol initiative' in the downtown core.

From Aug. 9 until Aug. 21 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., two officers conducted a total of 156 patrol hours in the downtown area.

As a result of the extra patrols officers conducted the following;

  • Made five arrests
  • Issued 14 provincial offences notices
  • Laid one by-law ticket
  • Performed six street checks
  • Spoke with 108 people
  • Performed 35 vehicle checks
  • Spent 10 hours walking patrol area.

In a press release issued today, police say the focus area was determined through "investigative analysis of community complaints as well as information gathered by officers while responding to calls for service."

“The additional patrols provide an increased police presence in areas we continue to receive calls and complaints about,” says Acting Inspector of Emergency Management and Business Continuity Ben Bolduc in today's release. “The goal is to deter people involved in criminal activity from victimizing community members and increase enforcement of federal, provincial and municipal laws and by-laws such as the Safe Streets Act and Liquor Licence Act.”
