Police say he held the victim for five hours

Update:

Sault Police say they responded to a call of a domestic dispute in the 800 block on Cooper St. around 8:30 p.m. last night.

Police report they observed the accused in front of the residence with a handgun, and that he went back inside and blocked another person inside the residence from leaving.

As a result, a full Incident Response Team was called to the scene, including two negotiators.

Police say the accused pointed the firearm at officers on several occasions.

After approximately five hours of negotiating, the victim was released from the residence and the accused was arrested and the handgun was seized.

No physical injuries were sustained during the incident.

After seizing the handgun, it was determined it was an imitation firearm.

The accused, a 56-year-old man, was charged with forcible confinement, assaulting a peace officer with an imitation weapon, pointing a firearm and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence. He was held for bail court.

Sault police are reporting they responded to an incident of forcible confinement on Thursday night.

Sault Police media spokesperson Lincoln Louttit told SooToday the situation was resolved without any physical injuries and charges are pending.
