Theft Under $5000
51-year old Janice Dawson of 101-94 Allard Street was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused was at the Canadian Tire Store located Great Northern Avenue and McNabb Street and attempted to leave the store without paying for several items. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. She will appear in court on September 11th.
Outstanding Warrant Arrest Made
27-year old Justin Fluke of 31 Grandhaven Crescent was arrested yesterday afternoon on an outstanding warrant for one count of perjury from an incident in 2005. The accused was also charged with one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on September 11th.
Break & Enters
City Police received two break and enter reports yesterday:
1) A home in the 900 block of Queen Street East was entered yesterday and a purse and it’s contents were stolen.
2) Yesterday between 9 am and 12 noon a home was broken into on Creery Avenue and a green coloured Ford Festiva, 2-door hatchback, was taken. It is unknown if anything else was taken.
Gentle Reminder From Your Friendly Neighborhood Police
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind residents not to let persons they do not know into their home. Last evening City Police attended at a downtown residence after a female complainant realized she was missing some money. The complainant advised that a young male attended at her residence yesterday and asked to use the phone and he was allowed into the home to use the phone. After the male suspect left the residence the victim realized that she was missing some money that had been near the phone. The male is described as being 18 years of age, very tall and skinny with black medium length hair. At the time of the theft he was wearing a short sleeved plaid shirt, jeans and sandals. Anyone having any information on this suspect as asked to contact City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Shortly after 4 pm yesterday City Police attended in the 400 block of John Street for a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles and injuries. A van operated by a 29-year old female had stopped for a red light while traveling northbound on John Street. A van driven by a 39-year old female stopped behind the first van. It is alleged that a van operated by a 32-year old female failed to stop and ran into second van resulting in a chain reaction with the first two vans that had stopped. A passenger in the middle van was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The 32-year old female has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of count of careless driving.
