Buskerfest Street Closure

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists that there will be a street closure during Buskerfest.

The street closure will occur on Queen Street East between East Street and Brock Street during the following dates and times:
Friday August 5 - 3 pm to 10 pm
Saturday August 6 – 11 am to 11 pm
Sunday August 7 – 10 am to 7 pm
Please keep this in mind if you are planning to attend in the downtown area this weekend.

Male Charged with Theft

49-year old Bradley Homes of no fixed address was arrested yesterday around noon hour. It is alleged that the accused attended at Rome’s Your Independent Grocer and attempted to leave the store with a bottle of Listerine. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. The accused was on probation at the time of the offence with conditions to keep the peace and be good. Mr. Holmes has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation and will appear in bail court this morning.

Break and Enter

City Police received one report of an attempt break and enter yesterday. A home in the 500 block of Pine Street was broken into during the mid afternoon hours, but this time the would be thieves were surprised to find a dog in the residence and it appears that they quickly left without obtaining anything. If you know who is responsible for this attempt break and enter or may have seen who was responsible for it, contact City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867.

Theft from Vehicle

Yesterday morning a report was received regarding a theft from a vehicle in the 100 block of Nokomis Beach Road. Thieves made of with a stereo, a digital camera and a DVD player.


Vehicle Theft

Just before 1 am this morning an alert neighbour in the 100 block of Moluch Street called to report the possible theft of a neighbours pickup truck. The caller noted that vehicle rolled out of the driveway and started moving along the street. It appears the thief was scared off by something as a male quickly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect is described as a male, 5’8” tall, short blonde hair and was wearing a gray overcoat and a bush jacket. If you know who is responsible for this crime call City Police or Crime Stopper.

Yesterday’s release regarding a break and enter and theft of vehicle

A home owner in the 100 block of Sunnydale Road reported that someone entered their residence and stole a purse, as well as 1999 Grand Am with Ontario licence plate ASPE 699. If you have seen this vehicle contact City Police.

Correction:

The correct plate for the stolen vehicle is ASPB 699, and not ASPE 699 as was initially reported. The car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, 2 door, black in colour and is still outstanding as stolen.

Moose in Backyard

Yesterday morning at 7 am City Police attended in the area of Country Club after a call was received regarding two large moose in the area. The moose were gone on police arrival. Just after 8am City Police and MNR staff attended in the 100 block of Bristol Place regarding a moose in a back yard. The moose was tranquilized by MNR staff, transported and released into a wooded area north of the City. This was on of several calls the City Police have received in the last week regarding a moose in a residential area in the east end of town. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the MNR would like to advise the public that if you do encounter a moose in the City contact the City Police. Do not approach the moose. If the moose gets nervous or agitated it can become aggressive. This could result in harm to a person or persons, or injury to the animal as it tries to get away. Remember this is a large, strong wild animal that can cover a fair distance in a short time. Use caution and stay away.
