Drug Charges Laid
Last evening the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the O.P.P. Drug Enforcement Section, the O.P.P. North East Region and the R.C.M.P., executed a search warrant at an address on Pim Street. Four persons were arrested. Officers located just over 30 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,990 as well as codeine tablets. Officers also located a large can of pepper spray (bear spray) in the residence as well as a knife on the accused James Gilbert. The following persons have been arrested and charged:
1) 23-year old Jason Gilbert of 320 Pim Street has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He will appear in bail court this morning.
2) 49-year old James Gilbert of 320 Pim Street has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a weapon for the purpose dangerous to the public. He will appear in bail court this morning.
3) 19-year old Kylie Little of 4-996 Peoples Road has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in court on March 5th.
4) 38-year old Corry Derasp of 347 Highway 552 East, Goulais River has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in court on March 5th.
In the last 24-hour period the following break and enters were reported:
1) A home on Woodward Avenue was entered yesterday between 9:30 am and 10 pm. Two satellite receivers were taken.
2) Sometime between 10:30 am and 11:30 am on the 1st of February a residence on Willow Avenue was entered and an undisclosed amount of money was taken.
Youth Charged after Breaking into Cars on North St.
Just after 4 am this morning officers from Patrol Services on routine patrol became suspicious of a youth that was riding a bike in the downtown area. Upon further investigation officers learned that the accused was in possession of property that had been taken from vehicles in the area of North Street. Officers have recovered several items of property including Gerber tools, a NOMA timer, CD’s in a case and a bracelet. Any owners of vehicles who live in this area and are missing this property from their vehicles are asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300. The 15-year old male youth has been charged with four counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of possession of housebreaking tools. He will appear in court on February 27th.
