On January 2, 2013, shortly after 9 p.m., Police attended at a residence on Prentice Avenue regarding a 9-1-1 call.
Upon arrival investigators determined that an altercation had occurred within the residence between two individuals. As a result of that altercation one person, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The accused Ryan Kane age 37 of Prentice Avenue was arrested at the time of the incident and has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held for bail court.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police wish to inform the public that this incident is not a random act, persons involved are known to each other. Investigators are currently working on this case. Further information will be updated as it becomes available.

On January 2, 2014 is alleged that the accused male age 42 breached his probation order by attending at the place of employment of the victim when he was ordered by the court not to attend. The probation order was issued because of previous domestic matter. The accused was arrested by police and charged with 2 counts of breach of probation. The accused will appear in bail court on January 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
On January 2, 2014 the accused age 22, allegedly assaulted the victim by grabbing the victims glasses, pushing her and knocking the victims hat off of the victims head. The accused had assaulted the same victim earlier in the day but charges were not pursued by the victim at that time. The accused will appear in bail court on January 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
On January 2, 2014 police responded to a dated domestic incident. It is alleged that on May 20, 2012 the accused age 36, attended on Wellington Street and met the victim. The victim was pregnant at the time and was kicked in the stomach. The accused’s brother attempted to stop the abuse and the victim ran into her residence. The accused entered and kicked the victim in the face causing a broken jaw. The accused also stomped on the victim’s glasses destroying them. Further between August 5 and 8, 2013 the accused was at the victim’s residence and sexually assaulted the victim. Further that on August 11, 2013 the accused entered the victim’s residence when the victim was not there and damaged the property of the victim. The victim returned home and asked the accused to leave the residence. The accused slapped the victim in the face and left. Police arrested the accused on January 3, 2014 on the following charges: assault X 2, assault causing bodily harm, mischief X 2, sexual assault and unlawfully in a dwelling house. The accused will appear in bail court on January 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
