Saturday Parade

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists that the Community Day Parade on Saturday will affect downtown traffic. At 10 am Queen Street East from Pine Street to East Street will be closed and motorists will not be allowed in that stretch. At 10:45 am the closure will extend and will then be from Pine Street East to Gore Street. It will remain closed until the parade has gone through and it will be opened once it is safe to do so. The parade itself starts moving at 11 am. Motorists need to remember that they will not be able to access or cross Queen Street during this closure. Persons who wish to go to the Station Mall area can access the Mall via Andrew Street and leave the area via Gore Street. Anyone who needs to attend at the Hospital will be allowed down Kohler Street, but for non-emergency issues, may have a short wait for a break in the parade. If you need to attend to a family member in the hospital you may wish to go a little earlier then normal.

Male Charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

28-year old Indio Munoz of McMinnville, Oregon, USA will be appearing in bail court this morning. Yesterday afternoon just after 4 pm Mr. Munoz was stopped at Canada Customs as he entered into the Country. A search was done on the accused vehicles and Customs Inspectors located a 12HMASH Saiga 12 gauge shotgun, which is prohibited in Canada. Also located were 5 ammunition magazines, 4 for a 12 gauge and one for a 9 mm, all of which are over capacity magazines, making the a prohibited device in Canada. Mr. Munoz has been charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

Mischief Charges Laid

33-year old Bernard Chookomolin of 49 Borron Street #1 was arrested yesterday afternoon after City Police attended at an address in the 100 block of Borron Street. It is alleged that the accused kicked a residential door causing damage to the door. It is also alleged that the accused threatened to harm the male resident of the address where the damage was caused. Mr. Chookomolin has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. He will appear in bail court today.


Assault Charges Laid

1) 42-year old Timothy Constantineau of 536 Shannon Road was arrested just before midnight last night. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a female who was at this residence by smashing her head into a counter, causing a minor injury. The victim did require medical treatment. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in court on August 22nd. (This was not a domestic situation.)

2) A 26-year old female was arrested yesterday afternoon after City Police attended at a west end address for a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the female assaulted her boyfriend by pushing him and punching him in the arm a couple of times. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in court on August 17th.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Yesterday just before 12 noon City Police attended at Allen Side Road and Second Line West for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. It is alleged that 78-year-old Marguerite Griffith of 37 Sharon Crescent was turning left from Allen Side Road onto Second Line West in her car when she pulled out in front of a car, operated by 78 year-old Gerhard Kempny of 4751 Second Line West, which was traveling westbound on Second Line West. Mr. Kempny received minimal injuries that did not require medical treatment at the time. Both vehicles received moderate damage. Mrs. Griffith has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with left turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

Break and Enters

City Police received one report on an attempt break and enter yesterday. A homeowner in the 100 block of Grove Crescent reported that someone tried to enter the home but was not successful.

City Police received a report of a stolen air conditioning unit yesterday. On the 13th of July the air conditioning unit had been in a window at Northstar Brokers located at 3 Queen Street East.
