July 19th evening news At approximately 1:55 am this morning City Police were called after a pickup truck struck a parked car on Heath Road. The pickup truck left the scene headed towards Chartwell Drive.

At approximately 1:55 am this morning City Police were called after a pickup truck struck a parked car on Heath Road. The pickup truck left the scene headed towards Chartwell Drive. Officers attended in the area and discovered that a large section of fence on Bennett Blvd had been extensively damaged. A second call was received around the same time from a resident on Hugill Street regarding a possible impaired driver involving a pickup truck. Police attended in the area and located the pickup truck in the 1500 block of Queen Street East. Damage to the pickup truck was consistent with the damage to the parked car and the fence. Officers are continuing to follow up on this investigation and no further details from the collision are available at this time.

The driver of the pickup truck showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested. 19 -year old Bryan Thomas Evans of 111 Hugill Street was charged with one count of Impaired Driving, One count of Drive over the Legal Limit and two counts of Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident under the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused will appear in court on August 19th, 2013.

A 16 year old male turned himself in at the police station on a warrant for failing to appear in court. It is alleged that the accused was supposed to be in court on a charge of threatening and failed to show up. He was given a new court date of August 20th.

Arrest of Cody Cuthbertson

On July 18, 2013 members of the Police Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Unit, Uniform Division and the Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at 107 Forest Avenue. During the course of the search police located a .22 caliber rifle, 22 caliber ammunition, 12 gauge ammunition, pepper spray, a quantity of cocaine, marihuana, codeine tablets, drug paraphernalia and a large quantity of alleged stolen property. As a result the accused Cody Cuthbertson age 27, of 107 Forest Avenue, basement apartment stands charged with 14 charges and will appear in bail court July 19, 2013 at 10:00am.

Update

On the 18th of July, 2013 shortly after 3 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed a search warrant at 107 Forest Avenue.  Officers from the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Unit, Emergency Services Unit and Patrol Services were involved in the search. 

Items located include: a .22 calibre rifle, ammunition for a .22 calibre rifle and for a 12 gauge shotgun, pepper spray, 28 grams of cocaine, 18.5 grams of marijuana and codeine tablets as well as packaging material, a digital scale and drug paraphernalia. 

Additionally officers located a quantity of property that is believed to have been stolen from recent break and enters. Items located include silver coins, quantities of change, liquor, drinking glasses, a bed frame, a computer, cameras, electronics, kitchen appliances, ornamental vases and a television.  Officers from the Crime Suppression Unit are continuing to work on this investigation to locate the owners of the stolen property.

27-year old Cody Blaine Cuthbertson of 107 Forest Avenue has been charged with 14 counts and they are: Possession for the Purpose x 2, Possession of a Controlled Drug or Substance x 2, Careless use of a Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition x 2, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm, Ammunition, or Prohibited Weapon x 3 and Breach of Probation x 1.

Morning news:

On July 18, 2013 at approximately 2:15 pm police attended at a call in the West End of the city regarding a family dispute.  A verbal argument ensued between the victim and the accused regarding custody of their child. The accused entered the residence without being invited in and then grabbed the child against the child’s will.The accused age 26, is charged with unlawfully in a dwelling house and assault.  The accused will appear in Bail Court on July 19, 2013 at 10:00am.

On July 18, 2013 at approximately 11:40 pm police responded to a fight call at a local pub.  While there they came across an intoxicated male. A check of the individual was done and it was found that there were outstanding arrest warrants in place.  The accused was arrested for failing to attend court, failing to attend for finger prints and mischief X 2.  The accused Vincent Claude Cadreau age 22 of 128 Eagle Street, will appear in Bail Court July 19, 2013 at 10:00am

On July 19, 2013 at approximately 1:15 am responded to a call regarding two people involved in a verbal argument.  It was found that a young female age 17 and a male that she was on court conditions not to be around were involved.  Further the female was on condition not to consume alcohol. The accused was also on probation with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.  The accused will appear in Bail Court on July 19, 2013 at 10:00am

On July 19 2013 police responded to a call for a person to be removed.  A check revealed an outstanding warrant for an assault charge. The accused age 15 was arrested and will appear in court on August 20, 2013 at 09:30.
