Officers attended the city’s east end at approximately 4:30 a.m. to assist in a search for a missing 88 year old man who had wandered from his residence.  K9 officer Justice located the missing male shortly after beginning a track. The man was returned home safely.

Several calls were received this morning around 7:30 a.m. for a large moose calf wandering in the city’s east end.  The animal travelled from the Irwin Avenue and Shannon Road areas to Holy Cross School and with assistance of officers was moved along the hub trail northbound past Bristol place and eventually into the woods behind Batchewana First Nation.

At 09:50 hours police were called for three black bears in the Whitney Avenue area.

At 12:27 police were called to the Millcreek area for two bear cubs up a tree and the mother bear wandering the neighbourhood.

Morning news

On June 5, 2014 at 5 p.m., patrol officers arrested and charged Cory Gostlin, age 35 of Albert Street West, with Theft under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Officers learned that the accused had allegedly stolen a motorcycle. Gostlin will appear in court on June 23.

On June 6, 2014 after midnight, patrol officers attended at a residence in the northern section of the city for a domestic dispute. Officers learned a 39-year-old male had assaulted and threatened to harm his ex-girlfriend. Officers learned he had also assaulted her two weeks prior on May 21. She received minor injuries in the June assault. The victim received medical treatment for injuries she received in the May assault. The male was on two probation orders with numerous conditions that involved not harming or be in the company of the victim. He was arrested and charged with Assault, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Uttering Threats and eleven counts of Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court on June 6.
