Keep An Eye Out For Our Children

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind that public to be extra aware when driving around town. March Break is upon us and there will be an increase in pedestrian traffic. Remember that the kids may not be paying as much attention as they should. So slow down and keep an eye out for our children.

3 People To Appear In Bail Court This Morning

Just before 1:30 am this morning it is alleged that 38-year old Gary Bernard of 271 McNabb Street attended at the Krazy Ernies store located at 256 McNabb Street and threw two beer bottles at the store window, however the window did not break. It is alleged that the accused left the store and returned with a baseball bat and broke the front window of the store. At the time of the offence the accused was on a release order not to consume alcohol, which he breached, as well as being on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good. Mr. Bernard has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000, one count of breach of a release order and one count of breach of probation.

Around 10:30 pm last evening City Police stopped a vehicle that had one headlight burnt out. When officers asked the driver for her licence she was unable to produce it and verbally identified herself. Officers were suspicious of the name provided by the driver and further investigation revealed that the driver provided a false name to the officer. Once officer ascertained the driver’s real name a query of that name revealed that she was on a release document not use a cell phone, which she had been using when officer approached the vehicle. 33-year old Line Duguay of 325 Chambers Avenue has been charged with one count of impersonation with intent and one count of breach of a release order.

27-year old Elizabeth Nevitt of 14 Blutcher Street has been charged with one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that between the 24th of January and the 18th of February the accused followed a male known to the accused, and harassed the victim by repeatedly communicating with him.

Impaired Driver Busted At Customs

On the 9th of March just before 3 am Canada Custom officials pulled a vehicle into the inspection station after the Custom’s officer noted that the driver had to swerve to pull into the lane. It is alleged that the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver was detained and turned over to City Police. 40-year old Valda Beauchamp of 101 Goetz Street was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on April 10th.

Trespassing And Assault Charges

19-year old Kyle Taylor of 37 Cathcart Street was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused was arrested by Station Mall Security for trespassing and while the accused was in the security office, it is alleged that he pushed one of the security officers in an attempt to flee the office. The accused was also charged with trespassing. He will appear in court on April 10th.

Assault With A Weapon

24-year old Richard English of 186 Pitt Avenue, Dryden was arrested around 5 am this morning and charged with one count of assault with a weapon. The accused was in a room in a local downtown hotel with a number of persons when he alleged threw a beer can at a female victim, striking the victim in the head and face. The victim did not require medical treatment. The accused will appear in court on April 24th.

Mischeif To Vehicles

Yesterday City Police received 4 reports of mischief to vehicles. The incidents occurred in the tiered parking in the 100 block of Foster Drive. A window was broken in each vehicle and property was taken from the vehicles. Property included coins, cell phones, and clothing. The public is reminded not to leave valuables visible in their vehicles.
