Robbery- East Side Confectionary
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating an armed robbery to the East Side Confectionary located at 76 Eastern Ave. that occurred today at about 1:20pm. Two young males entered the store and banished a knife to the attendant. The youths left the store on foot in an easterly direction. There was nothing obtained by the suspects in the robbery. The suspects are described as,
1) male, native, 5’1”, appeared to be in his teens, wearing a red hooded jacket and white pants,
2) male, native, 5’8”- 5’9”, appeared to be in his teens, wearing a red hooded jacket.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police is continuing its investigation and are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the City Police at 949-6300.
FRAUD Alert – Telemarketing Scam
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Fraud Unit has received a complaint where an elderly couple was contacted by a telemarketer purporting to be a representative of the Sault Are Hospital Foundation. Monthly donations were requested and information regarding the victim’s bank account number, transit number and other personal banking information was fraudulently obtained. The Sault Area Hospital Foundation is NOT currently involved in any telemarketing campaign and does NOT request banking information of any benefactor over the telephone. Monthly donations are done by filling in a specific form accompanied by a void cheque through the SAHF office.
The community is urged to be vigilant when contacted via telephone for any donations and never provide personal information, banking information or credit card data to a caller. Anyone with any questions or concerns regarding donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation is asked to call the SAHF office directly at 759-3848.
Assault and Breach of Probation
Yesterday morning, at 9:05 AM, City Police arrested and charged a young person with Assault and Breach of Probation. The charges stem from allegations that the accused assaulted another youth by punching, kicking and knocking the victim to the ground. At the time of this offence the accused was on Probation. The youth will be appearing in court on Tues. Nov.22 at 9:30 AM.
Harassment Charges
At approx. 9:00 PM last night City Police arrested 47-year-old James Kinkaid for harassment. It is alleged that the accused made harassing phone calls to the complainant after he was warned several times to stop. As a result Mr. Kinkaid will be appearing in court on Monday Nov. 21st at 9:00 AM on a charge of Harassment.
The City Police are investigating the following incidents from over night:
A break-in was reported to a garage in the 200 block of Glasgow Ave. In the incident thieves forced a door and stole a bicycle from the garage.
A vehicle parked in the 400 block of Albert St.E. was entered and several items were stolen from inside. Take were several hand and power tools and a cell phone.
The bus shelter on McNabb St. at Brien Ave was damaged.
