Guy trying to take bike uses pepper spray on security guards: Police

A 26-year-old is facing multiple weapons charges as well as an assault charge, among others

A 26-year-old is facing multiple charges, including weapons charges after an altercation on Thursday evening.

Around 6 p.m., a 911 call was made to report a disturbance in the 200 block of Bay Street.

The caller reported that a person was attempting to assault security officers with pepper spray after punching another victim while trying to take their bike.

Officers arrived and located the suspect a short time later. The individual was arrested and a search by police found them to be in possession of a cannister of pepper spray.

Norman Shaganash has been charged with:

  • assault
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • unauthorized possession of weapon
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon
  • possession of weapon contrary to order (x3)
  • failure to comply with undertaking
  • failure to comply with probation order

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
