A driver faces impaired charges after police received multiple complaints about an erratic driver on Saturday night.

Police were told the driver was seen "driving in reverse, swerving into oncoming traffic, hitting a curb, driving through a stop sign, driving onto a sidewalk, and stopping at a green light at an intersection," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The suspect vehicle was stopped on Atwater Street and the driver arrested.

"The accused failed to provide a suitable breath sample despite being given multiple opportunities to do so," the release says.

As a result of this investigation, 33-year-old Amani Alimasi is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 26 and stands accused of:

    •    Operation while impaired – drug and/or alcohol
    •    Failure or refusal to comply with demand
    •    Dangerous operation

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Alimasi is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
